F1, Ferrari | Fred Vasseur urges caution: why the first 2026 race will be misleading. Fred Vasseur warns fans and insiders not to draw conclusions after the first race.

With brand-new aerodynamic regulations and radically revised power units, Ferrari and team principal Fred Vasseur are calling for caution. According to the Scuderia, the opening race of the 2026 Formula 1 season will not reflect the true competitive order of the teams.

Ferrari has broken its silence and delivered a clear and strong message to the paddock: the first race of the 2026 season will not be representative and will not show the real level of the teams. This warning comes directly from team principal Fred Vasseur, who has urged both industry insiders and Ferrari fans not to create an “imaginary standings table” after the Australian Grand Prix.

The 2026 season will mark one of the most profound regulatory revolutions in recent Formula 1 history. New aerodynamic rules, completely new power units and a fundamentally different technical philosophy will make the start of the championship particularly deceptive. According to Ferrari, judging performance after just a single race would be a serious mistake. Fred Vasseur was very clear in his assessment: “I don’t think the hierarchy after Australia will be the real one,” he explained.

The French manager also underlined how every team will still be in a learning and understanding phase with the new cars, with technical solutions and performance trends that will only emerge progressively over the course of the season. Early results, therefore, should be read with extreme caution, as they may hide the true potential of several teams.

The Maranello team changes its approach

Ferrari heads into the 2026 campaign under intense media attention following a difficult 2025 season. Expectations around the Maranello-based team are high, but Ferrari is keen to avoid creating false hopes or unrealistic narratives. “With completely new regulations, nobody can know where they will really be,” Fred Vasseur added.

The team principal also openly acknowledged the widespread uncertainty across the grid: “I don’t know if we will be ahead of McLaren, Red Bull or Alpine. Nobody knows.” These words perfectly describe the climate of technical instability that will accompany the beginning of the new regulatory cycle. According to Ferrari, the real fight will not be decided in Melbourne, but rather by the ability to develop the car race after race.

Updates, technical direction and reaction speed will be the decisive factors. In a season defined by continuous evolution, teams that interpret the regulations better and adapt more quickly will be able to change their fortunes dramatically over time.

Ferrari’s message is therefore crystal clear: stay calm. After years marked by false starts and unmet expectations, the Scuderia appears determined to adopt a more realistic and measured approach. The 2026 Formula 1 season will not be a sprint, but a long technical and mental marathon, where patience, consistency and development will ultimately make the difference.
