Here is who will be Hamilton’s new race engineer: he arrives from McLaren
Find out who will be Lewis Hamilton’s new race engineer at Ferrari: he arrives directly from the reigning world champion team.
The situation surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer at Ferrari continues to be one of the most widely discussed topics in the paddock, but the reality is far more straightforward than it might appear from the outside. As has emerged in recent hours, the Scuderia has already defined a provisional set-up on the pit wall for the seven-time world champion, while waiting for the arrival of the figure who is expected to take on the role on a permanent basis.
During the Barcelona tests, as well as the short Fiorano shakedown, Lewis Hamilton will therefore continue to work with Bryan Bozzi, currently Charles Leclerc’s race engineer, supported remotely by Carlo Santi from the remote garage. This is a temporary solution, designed to guarantee operational continuity and technical stability during a particularly delicate transition phase. It is not a sign of indecision or internal second thoughts. Ferrari are simply waiting for the chosen candidate to complete the mandatory gardening leave period required by regulations. As reported by AutoRacer and confirmed by other Italian sources, the name at the top of the list remains Cedric Michel-Grosjean, who is set to arrive from McLaren.
Who will be Hamilton’s next race engineer?
The French engineer has built a long and well-structured career within the Woking-based team. After eight years of progressive development, working across roles linked to data analysis, wind tunnel support and strategy, Michel-Grosjean became a permanent member of the trackside team between 2018 and 2022 as a Trackside Car Performance Engineer. In 2023, he then took on a key role within Oscar Piastri’s working group, focusing on performance analysis and performance development.
Although he has never formally held the position of race engineer, his profile is considered very similar to that of Bryan Bozzi before his promotion to work alongside Charles Leclerc. Ferrari would therefore be repeating a move already seen in the past: pairing the driver with a figure who has strong technical expertise, extensive experience working closely with the trackside team, and a solid ability to interpret and manage data. According to sources close to Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton himself is also directly involved in the choice of his future race engineer, underlining the strategic importance of this role within the broader 2026 project.
