Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc once again acknowledges the significant role Carlos Sainz plays in his career and in the results achieved by the Maranelo team. The Monegasque driver is fully aware that pairing up with the Spaniard is a great advantage for his career.

For this reason, Charles Leclerc has decided to explain why he finds the collaboration with number 55 particularly intense and constructive. The two have been teammates for their fourth season, which will also be their last one as the Ferrari’s line-up after the failed renewal and Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Maranello garage starting with the 2025 Formula 1 championship.

The Spaniard has won the last two races brought home by Ferrari and was the only non-Red Bull driver to win during the past season, dominated by Max Verstappen and the Austrian team. Certainly, Charles Leclerc has often outperformed Carlos Sainz, yet it was the Spaniard who climbed to the top step of the podium in the last two available occasions.

“To beat Sainz, I just have to try to be better. But I like this internal challenge, it allows me to improve. In Australia, for example, in qualifying, I wasn’t good enough. Carlos was better than me, and I have to take inspiration from him. He pushes me a lot to improve,” says the number 16 of Maranello.

“In the race in Australia, I did well, but it wasn’t enough. Simply, he proved to be stronger than me. But from the next race, I will push, and then I’ll be better in the next race, and then we’ll improve like that. For a driver, it’s very exciting to have such a fast teammate. He was really determined [in Australia], especially after the difficulties he had due to his surgery. So congratulations to Carlos, he helps me to improve,” concludes the Monegasque driver following the one-two finish in the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit last weekend.
