With the step forward made by Scuderia Ferrari at the start of the 2021 Formula 1 season, there were already those who hoped to see the Maranello team fight for the top positions on the grid, perhaps with a focus on the bronze medal in the constructors’ championship. However, the Team Principal of the Maranello team, Mattia Binotto, believes that in order to reach those results, there is still a long way to go.
On the other hand, McLaren has already proved more competitive than the Prancing Horse and, unless there are big future surprises, it also seems well on its way to reconfirming its status as third force on the track.
According to a recent repport from Soymotor.com, Scuderia Ferrari has also already anticipated that it does not intend to invest all the resources at its disposal in the development of the SF21, preffering to focus on next year’s car project. Despite this, the goal is still to lead the central group of the grid.
The next three or four races will therefore be fundamental to get to know Ferrari’s real potential and begin to understand what objectives are actually achievable: “The distance from the leaders is very clear and in the race it was great, so we still have a long way to go. but it will also depend on the track in question. We know that we will not work much on the development of this car, because we will focus on 2022 in terms of design and development. I’m sure it will be the same for almost everyone else” – the Ferrari boss told Motorsport.com – “We have received feedback from our drivers; they started to get to know the car and know what its limits are. We can improve, so I think the next three or four races will indicate what the real performance and potential of our car is compared to that of the rivals” – he explained.
The Ferrari boss also admitted how important it is to have a calm atmosphere within the team; this, together with a more performing car than the previous one, will be fundamental factors in getting Ferrari back on the road to victory: “I certainly feel relieved because we can work in a better situation and this is very healthy for the team. It is important to work in healthy conditions, to be calm and positive and for me this was relevant.” – he concluded.
