The official announcement of the line-up for the Hypercar program confirmed the presence of Italian driver Antonio Giovinazzi at the wheel of one of the two Ferrari 499P LMHs: it was an expected announcement, which however will not interrupt his tasks and responsibilities with the Formula 1 program of the Prancing Horse. The former Alfa driver will join Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado in the #51 car for their 499P Hypercar entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Ferrari’s other car, #50, will be driven by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen.

Antonio Giovinazzi will maintain the role of ‘reserve driver’ also for the 2023 Formula 1 season, and will be at the tracks in the race weekends in which the Formula 1 world championship calendar will not coincide with the WEC calendar (five of the seven rounds of the Endurance world championship).

On the weekends in which Antonio Giovinazzi will be busy at the wheel of the 499P, the role of reserve driver will pass to Robert Shwartzman, who during the previous year was employed full-time in the Maranello simulator and on the track in two first free practice sessions (in the United States and Abu Dhabi) at the wheel of the F1-75 challenger.

Robert Shwartzman will thus remain linked with the Ferrari also for the season that he is preparing to begin, after having recently experienced a run in Indycar in a test held at Sebring with a single-seater from the Ganassi team.

It is not excluded that the twenty-three-year-old Israeli could combine his commitment as a Ferrari reserve driver in Formula 1 with a program on the track, but at the moment there are no official communications on the matter.
