Ferrari took immediate action to correct a social media post following a curious linguistic misunderstanding that sparked widespread discussion among fans online. In its initial preview post on official channels, the Scuderia had written simply “São GP,” an apparently harmless graphic that, however, carries a very different meaning in Portuguese.
The Ferrari social media gaffe that caught attention
As reported yesterday, the word “São” in Portuguese translates to “are,” while “GP,” besides being the common abbreviation for “Grand Prix,” is sometimes colloquially used in Brazil to refer to a “garota de programa,” meaning “woman of easy virtue.” Although entirely unintentional, the post generated ironic reactions and embarrassed commentary across social media, prompting Ferrari’s communications team in Maranello to step in quickly.
Ferrari removes the post and corrects the error
Today, Ferrari removed the offending post from all its official Instagram, X, and Facebook accounts. It was replaced with a new graphic correctly reading “São Paulo GP.” This revision eliminated any potential misunderstanding while maintaining the vibrant aesthetic typical of Ferrari’s social media content. The updated post featured images celebrating the Interlagos weekend and included a neutral, celebratory message. While there was no direct reference to the previous mistake, fans immediately recognized the correction and praised the team for the rapid response.
With the updated “São Paulo GP” post, Ferrari effectively closed the minor social media incident and refocused attention on what truly matters: the track action and the final challenges of the season. The swift correction has been positively received, ensuring that Ferrari’s messaging now reflects professionalism while keeping the lively, engaging tone fans expect from the Scuderia’s digital presence.
