F1 | Fernando Alonso reveals his biggest Ferrari regret: “If I could turn back time…”. Fernando Alonso looks back on his Formula 1 career .

Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin AMR24), Carlos Sainz (Ferrari SF-24)

Looking back on his extraordinarily long Formula 1 career, Fernando Alonso has no hesitation in identifying his greatest regret. It has nothing to do with a recent team or a wrong career move, but rather with an unfulfilled dream during his time at Ferrari.

Speaking on the High Performance podcast, the Spanish driver admitted that if he could turn back time, the very first thing he would change would be the outcome of his seasons in red. “If I could go back, winning a championship with Ferrari would probably be the first thing I would choose,” Fernando Alonso said.

The reference is clearly to the 2010 and 2012 seasons, when the world title slipped away by just a handful of points and, in some cases, only a few laps. Those campaigns left behind the feeling of a historic missed opportunity. Fernando Alonso does not hide his disappointment over those bitter endings, fully aware that a title with the Prancing Horse could have profoundly changed the perception of his career and of entire Formula 1 seasons.

At the same time, the two-time world champion also recognises the limits of that regret. Many factors, he explains, were simply outside his control: car performance, team decisions, and the level of the opposition. For that reason, Fernando Alonso avoids describing those moments as real mistakes.

The deepest regret he carries today is of a different nature. Fernando Alonso admits that he did not fully live and appreciate the best moments of his career, not even when he was winning world championships with Renault. “I won the championships in 2005 and 2006 and I remember very little of those days. That’s a sad thing,” the Aston Martin driver confessed.

Now, as he approaches the final stages of his Formula 1 journey, his relationship with the past is more balanced and reflective. Ferrari remains an open sporting wound, but also a fundamental part of a story that Fernando Alonso now looks back on with greater awareness, shaped by new challenges and a different approach to racing.

It is a regret that still carries weight, but one that also shows just how deeply the years in red have marked one of the most complete drivers in the history of Formula 1.

Fernando Alonso therefore looks back on his Ferrari years as his ultimate “what if,” specifically regretting the missed titles of 2010 and 2012. While he has found peace with his career, the dream of winning in Maranello remains the one achievement he would change history to secure.
