An official statement from the main FIA categories, F1, F2 and F3: a clear condemnation of all forms of online abuse and harassment, the dark side of fandom
In a joint statement published through official channels and also shared on Instagram, F1, F2, F3 and the FIA firmly reiterated their stance against online abuse and harassment, urging all fans and participants in the motorsport world to maintain respect and humanity towards athletes and teams, keeping fandom healthy and non-toxic.
“On behalf of our Teams and Drivers, F1, F2, F3 and the FIA, through the United Against Online Abuse campaign, firmly condemn all forms of abuse and harassment,” reads the post.
The categories reaffirm their commitment to reporting and actively acting against toxic behavior on social platforms: “We will continue to act collectively to monitor and report abuse to social media platforms.”
The FIA and F1 unite against online abuse
The message is addressed both to insiders and fans: “Whether you are a fan or part of the motorsport world, we are all driven by passion.” But passion, they remind, must never turn into hate.
“At the center of everything, there are people. We ask everyone to maintain respect towards athletes and teams.” The initiative is part of the United Against Online Abuse campaign, launched in 2022 to directly tackle the increase in verbal violence, discrimination, and threats received by drivers and teams on social networks.
In recent years, many F1, F2 and F3 drivers have publicly reported receiving hateful messages, racist or sexist insults, and personal attacks, often after poor results on track. The FIA and the categories have therefore decided to actively collaborate with social platforms to identify and report those responsible for these toxic behaviors.
This new joint statement represents a further concrete step in the fight against online hate: a message that reminds everyone that sport is passion, but also respect.
