Anyone who attended qualifying for the 2023 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix has certainly not forgotten the team radio message of Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc at the end of Q3: “I want to thank Carlos for giving me a tow. I was able to have a little more speed and that always helps.”
Ironic words, obviously, those of the Monegasque. The Spaniard, as agreed, was supposed to follow him during the last qualifying session in Melbourne. Unfortunately though, Carlos decided on his own initiative to focus more on his lap than helping his Maranello teammate.
Peter Windsor shocked by Charles Leclerc’s political reaction
Although, it is customary for the drivers in red to help each other to the bitter end during qualifying (during the next round in Azerbaijan it would have been up to Charles Leclerc to give way to Carlos Sainz in Q3, but now it remains to be seen whether this will actually be the case), Peter Windsor, a Formula 1 expert F1 and former Williams and Ferrari team manager, was particularly affected by the attitude shown on the radio by the Monegasque.
“Not having been able to take advantage of Carlos Sainz’s tow seems to have annoyed Charles Leclerc a lot,” said the British Formula 1 journalist during his live broadcast on YouTube. “However, I think that, considering the Melbourne layout, the straight would have been the only section where he could have had an effective advantage.”

“I found his reaction strange. Making his considerations public I mean. He was obviously angry, but if you drive for Ferrari you have to be very careful with everything you say. I found it quite a political reaction,” he concluded.
