Ten climate change protesters arrested in Zandvoort
Yesterday, a group of protesters belonging to the Extinction Rebellion movement, which aims to combat climate change, attempted to disrupt the activities at Zandvoort as the Dutch circuit prepares to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend.
The goal of this group was to highlight climate change issues through nonviolent means of protest, in order to push the Dutch government to enact laws that would completely eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
Prominent slogans include “stop funding the climate crisis,” accusing Formula 1 of focusing solely on business and paying little attention to environmental concerns.
However, the protest did not go according to plan, as Dutch police, after repeated invitations to protest elsewhere, decided to take action by arresting the ten involved protesters. The organizers had indeed designated a specific area for Extinction Rebellion members to voice their concerns. Nevertheless, the protesters opted to sit in the middle of the main entrance to the circuit.
