Leclerc’s unusual journey after the Baku GP
After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, Charles Leclerc found himself at the center of an amusing story that also involved his former Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz. It was not a weekend to remember for the Monegasque driver, who crossed the finish line only in ninth place after a race full of difficulties for both him and Ferrari. By contrast, Sainz secured a podium finish with Williams, highlighting the very different fortunes of the two drivers. Yet the pair still ended up sharing a rather unexpected experience once the race was over, one that curiously also had an Italian twist.
The story revealed on social media
The unusual episode was explained directly by the drivers themselves through an Instagram story posted on Charles Leclerc’s profile. The Ferrari number 16 began by filming himself, before revealing that his travel companion and driver for the return trip was none other than Carlos Sainz.
Leclerc joked that after such a difficult weekend in Baku, he had not imagined things could get worse, yet there he was traveling with Carlos somewhere in central Italy. The reason was a storm that prevented their plane from landing in Nice. As a result, they were redirected to central Italy, where they had to rent a van in order to return to Monaco.
Sainz added that they had about two hours of driving ahead of them, though he teased that they would “make it an hour and a half.” Leclerc laughed in response, protesting with a playful “No, no, no.” The Spaniard then concluded in a joking tone with a firm “Never.”
A lighthearted moment after a tough weekend
This small misadventure, shared with fans online, brought a welcome smile to Charles Leclerc after a Baku Grand Prix that had been more challenging than expected. Even after a disappointing result on track, the camaraderie between the two former Ferrari teammates provided fans with a humorous behind-the-scenes moment.
