The 2025 Formula 1 season has become increasingly complicated for Charles Leclerc and Ferrari, as the SF-25 continues to fall short of expectations. The Singapore Grand Prix weekend proved particularly disappointing for the Maranello-based team, which now faces the task of analyzing everything that went wrong during the race. A braking issue affected both drivers, but even without it, Ferrari’s pace simply was not on par with its main competitors. Leclerc made no secret of his growing frustration with the SF-25, a car that has failed to find consistent performance throughout the year.
At certain stages of the season, Ferrari had appeared to reclaim its position as the second-strongest team on the grid. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella had even admitted that his team viewed the Scuderia as a serious threat for the second half of the championship. However, since those comments, the situation has shifted: Max Verstappen has secured two more victories for Red Bull, George Russell took one for Mercedes, and Ferrari has found itself left behind as its rivals have continued to progress.
Leclerc’s resignation grows
Following the Singapore Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc spoke openly about his feelings toward the Ferrari SF-25 and shared his thoughts on what to expect in the remaining rounds of the Formula 1 season. Finding a solution to revive the car’s competitiveness seems increasingly difficult, especially now that Ferrari struggles to keep up even with Mercedes and Red Bull.
“I don’t think there’s anything in the car that shows we’ll make a step forward,” said Charles Leclerc, who admitted it was hard to stay positive in such circumstances. “I think this is just the reality of our current situation. I don’t really know how we can turn things around, because there are no new components or updates coming for the car.”
No updates planned for the rest of the season
It has long been known that Ferrari, like most teams on the grid, will not introduce any further upgrades before the season finale in Abu Dhabi. The decision makes sense given that the team’s efforts are already focused on the 2026 project and the major regulation changes coming that year. However, this lack of development means Ferrari has very few options left to close the gap to the front of the pack.
“We made some steps forward at the beginning of the season, but so did everyone else, so the gap remained roughly the same. Then Red Bull managed to make two further steps during the year,” Charles Leclerc explained to the media after the race in Singapore. “Now it looks like Mercedes has also made that improvement, and we’re the only ones who haven’t found that breakthrough.”
Both rival teams have introduced aerodynamic updates in recent weeks. Red Bull even brought a completely new floor to Monza, which significantly improved the car’s performance. Meanwhile, in Maranello, the focus has already shifted to next season, and the chances of finding meaningful solutions to enhance the current SF-25 are very limited.
With the development race effectively frozen, Ferrari faces a challenging end to the campaign. Charles Leclerc’s words reflect not only the team’s technical limitations but also a growing sense of resignation that the SF-25 has reached its performance ceiling. For Ferrari fans, the hope now lies entirely in the future—specifically in the work being done for 2026, when the Scuderia aims to start a new era with a more competitive package capable of challenging Red Bull and McLaren at the front of the grid.
