Bernie Ecclestone has once again found himself at the center of controversy after making a controversial remark regarding the difficulties currently being faced by Lewis Hamilton. The relationship between the former Formula 1 CEO and the seven-time world champion has visibly deteriorated over the years, and this latest comment has only further underlined the growing tension between the two prominent figures in the world of Formula 1.
It is now evident to everyone following the sport that the connection between Bernie Ecclestone and Lewis Hamilton is no longer what it once was. The former boss of the Formula 1 organization never misses a chance to criticize the British driver, even during a season like the current 2025 championship, which has been far from easy for Hamilton.
The expectations surrounding Lewis Hamilton were extremely high ahead of his highly anticipated switch to Scuderia Ferrari. However, those expectations have so far not been met. Throughout the first fourteen rounds of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, the performance gap between Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc has been far too wide. Moreover, the number 44 Ferrari driver has made several costly mistakes, which have repeatedly placed him at the center of harsh criticism and debate among fans and analysts alike.
Ecclestone’s latest joke about Hamilton causes a stir
Despite all this, Bernie Ecclestone’s most recent comment did not sit well with Lewis Hamilton’s supporters, particularly because it was made in a context where the British driver had absolutely no relevance. While discussing a hypothetical scenario involving himself and Christian Horner, former Red Bull Racing Team Principal, becoming business partners at Alpine, Bernie Ecclestone made a sarcastic remark that many considered inappropriate.
He stated: “I think it’s more likely that Lewis Hamilton will win his eighth world championship title than this scenario actually happening. Hamilton has done an incredible job in Formula 1 over the years and still possesses incredible talent. But maybe he should get his act together a little bit.”
This comment, combining both praise and criticism, has been widely debated within the Formula 1 community, especially considering Hamilton’s current struggles at Ferrari during the 2025 season.
Bernie Ecclestone also added a comment regarding Christian Horner’s future, saying: “As for Horner, I don’t know what he will do in the future. His goal has always been to own part of Red Bull Racing. And unless someone else comes in with the money to replace him, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
With these statements, Bernie Ecclestone has once again proven capable of stirring debate in the paddock and reigniting discussions about Lewis Hamilton’s current difficulties and future prospects. Despite being long retired from the management of Formula 1, the former executive continues to influence the narrative surrounding the sport’s most high-profile personalities.
