The Austrian GP is heading into its most crucial moments—follow with us the live coverage of FP3 underway at the Red Bull Ring.
The first day of activity is behind us for the ten teams and twenty official drivers. While McLaren continues to confirm its strength, the others have had work to do to catch up. On the Maranello side, FP2 showed two sides: a good race simulation pace but also plenty of work to do for qualifying. Discover with us, through the live coverage of FP3 of the Austrian GP, how Ferrari worked overnight from Friday to Saturday.
Many hours in the simulator for Zhou, who in Maranello had the challenging and crucial task of testing various setups for the weekend. The job of Ferrari’s third driver was to compare the track data with the simulator data gathered before FP1. A meticulous task requiring great focus and calibration to extract as much data as possible and obtain a clearer picture of the situation.
While the car performed well in the race simulation, with a pace quite close to that of the two MCL39s, the qualifying outlook was worrying due to the gap. The goal is clearly to find the right compromise without jeopardizing the strong race pace shown in FP2.
Among the other teams, there’s satisfaction at Red Bull, at least on Max Verstappen’s side, and with both Mercedes cars, which seem to have unlocked a wider operating window after the suspension upgrade. The surprise, however, is Lawrence Stroll’s team, where his namesake driver brought the AMR25 to fourth place ahead of Charles Leclerc.
