Let’s take a look at Pirelli’s race strategy forecast for the Austrian Grand Prix, where Ferrari is aiming for victory in Spielberg.
Among the key variables that could determine the outcome of the race in Spielberg is the choice of the right strategy. Here is Pirelli’s prediction for the Austrian Grand Prix and what Ferrari might choose as their preferred approach.
Four strategic options available to the teams
According to Pirelli’s forecasts, a two-stop strategy is expected to be the most effective. The fastest option should involve starting on the medium compound, switching to hard tyres, and then finishing the race on another set of mediums. In this case, the pit stop windows would be between laps 18 and 24 for the first stop, and between laps 46 and 52 for the second.
An alternative strategy could involve using two sets of medium tyres before switching to hards for the final stint. If teams opt for this plan, the pit stops would fall between laps 18 and 24, and then between laps 39 and 45.
The third option involves starting on mediums and then switching to hard tyres, with the single stop taking place between laps 26 and 32.
The fourth and final scenario would see a start on the medium compound, a switch to hards between laps 20 and 26, and a final stint on soft tyres between laps 50 and 56.
For this weekend, Pirelli has selected the C3 compound as the hard, C4 as the medium, and C5 as the soft. These are the sets still available to the drivers:
