Pirelli, in collaboration with world-renowned designer Denis Dekovic, has unveiled a new version of the iconic Pirelli Podium Cap. The cap, worn by the top three finishers of each Formula 1 World Championship race, will be customized with details inspired by the culture of the host country.
The collection will consist of fourteen exclusive editions and will be available for purchase online on Pirelli’s e-commerce platform. The debut will take place in Melbourne, featuring caps dedicated to the first three races of the season.
Pirelli Compounds for the 2025 Australian GP
For the Australian weekend, Pirelli has confirmed the same range of compounds used in 2024, consisting of:
C3 as Hard
C4 as Medium
C5 as Soft
The compounds have been slightly updated to adapt to the higher aerodynamic loads generated by the new cars. The main changes involve reducing graining on the C4 and C5, to encourage more varied race strategies.
A Look at the Past: 2024 Strategies and Track Conditions
Last year, the most common strategy was a two-stop approach, with 80% of the laps completed on the Hard compound. The Soft was chosen by only three drivers at the start, with very short stints.
Albert Park, a street circuit with asphalt renewed in 2022, has unique characteristics: grip evolves quickly throughout the weekend due to rubber deposits left by cars on track. Additionally, the weather at this time of year is highly variable, with possible temperature swings and a risk of rain. In case of bad weather, the new Full Wet compound could make its debut, designed to reduce overheating and improve performance in crossover conditions.
Australian GP Statistics and Records
The Australian GP reaches its 39th edition, with Michael Schumacher holding the record for the most victories (4), followed by Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel (3 wins each). In terms of pole positions, Lewis Hamilton leads the ranking with 8 pole starts, ahead of Ayrton Senna (6).
At the team level, Ferrari and McLaren share the record with 11 victories each. However, Ferrari has been a key player in recent seasons, winning with Charles Leclerc in 2022 and Carlos Sainz in 2024.
