F1 | Leclerc disappointed after Australia podium and sends warning to Ferrari
Finishing third at the Australian Grand Prix with his Ferrari was not enough to make Charles Leclerc happy. The Ferrari driver ended the opening race of the 2026 Formula 1 season on the podium at Albert Park, but his post-race comments clearly revealed his frustration with how the weekend unfolded.
The Monegasque driver, well known for his honesty and transparency when analyzing performances, did not hide the problems that emerged during the weekend. According to Charles Leclerc, Ferrari still has a lot of work to do before reaching the level of competitiveness required to consistently fight at the front.
One of the most interesting points raised by Charles Leclerc concerns the complexity of the cars introduced in the new technical era. According to the Ferrari driver, the 2026 single-seaters demand that drivers manage far more aspects of the race on their own. “Today I’m not happy for several reasons. In races like this we still have a lot to optimize,” Charles Leclerc explained.

The Ferrari driver also described how, especially during the opening phases of the race, drivers are required to manage many situations without much support from the pit wall. “We are a bit left alone in the car. The engineers don’t talk to us much and there are so many things to manage, especially on the first lap.”
Despite this complex scenario, Charles Leclerc acknowledged that Ferrari handled the early stages of the race relatively well. “We did a good job managing it, but the overall pace doesn’t satisfy me.”
The Monegasque driver also spoke about the difficulties encountered in finding the right car setup during the Melbourne weekend. According to Charles Leclerc, the team experimented with several solutions between practice sessions and the race, but never managed to identify a clear direction.
“It was a bit of a chaotic weekend from a technical point of view. I went left and right with the setup without finding the right window,” he admitted. This situation made it harder to extract the maximum potential from the car.
Even so, the podium still represents an important result for Ferrari in the opening race of the season. However, Charles Leclerc’s comments underline how much work still lies ahead for the Scuderia. The team’s goal now will be to better understand the car’s behavior and achieve more consistent performance already in the upcoming rounds of the championship calendar.
Charles Leclerc’s “alarm” following the Melbourne podium underscores the immense mental workload placed on drivers by the 2026 regulations, where managing a “chaotic” car alone in the cockpit has become the new normal. For Ferrari, the priority must now shift from celebrating a P3 finish to stabilizing the SF-26’s setup window, ensuring that Leclerc has a more predictable platform to fight the Mercedes dominance as the championship moves to China.
