The team principal of the Woking-based outfit remains firmly in charge, as there has been no recent contact with Maranello. Gianpiero Lambiase, when he arrives in 2028, will only take over some of the responsibilities currently handled by the Italian engineer.
Andrea Stella to Ferrari? It is nothing more than a hoax, according to the Italian version of the Motorsport website. The McLaren team principal remains solidly in his position at the Woking team, where, together with Zak Brown, he has helped build a structure capable of winning both the Constructors’ Championship and the Drivers’ Championship last season with Lando Norris.
The fact that Gianpiero Lambiase will leave Red Bull to join the papaya squad does not mean that the Italian-British engineer will replace the Umbrian engineer. In fact, Gianpiero Lambiase will not become team principal, as has been reported, but will instead take on a senior role within the McLaren structure.
The Scuderia traditionally does not comment on market-related matters, but the signals coming from Maranello are clear, very clear: there has been no recent contact with Andrea Stella. The idea of a return for the aerospace engineer from Orvieto to Ferrari’s racing department has no real foundation. Andrea had joined McLaren in 2015, following Fernando Alonso’s move to the British team.
Stella had originally joined Ferrari in 2000. After working with the test team, in 2002 he became vehicle performance engineer for Michael Schumacher, and from 2007 he worked with Kimi Räikkönen in the same role before being promoted to the Finn’s race engineer in 2009. From the following year, Andrea formed a close working relationship with Fernando Alonso.
Then came the move to McLaren, where the Italian engineer built an impressive career, eventually earning the role of team principal. A highly respected technical figure and a meticulous organizer, Andrea has been widely appreciated for his ability to unite the team through his human qualities. In 2028, when Gianpiero Lambiase arrives, Andrea will hand over only some of the responsibilities he still covers, none of which are related to the team principal role. So why would he leave Woking?
