Adrian Newey has never lost the habit of looking beyond his own garage. During the British Grand Prix, the Aston Martin design chief was spotted on the grid carefully studying Isack Hadjar’s Red Bull RB22, just days after also taking a close look at Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari SF-26, which went on to win the race.
It is a detail that carries extra significance, especially at Aston Martin’s most difficult moment of the season. Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso once again started from the back of the grid, underlining the ongoing struggles of the AMR26.
Newey, who joined Aston Martin in 2025 following his departure from Red Bull, is already preparing the team’s response. A major upgrade package is expected to debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with changes designed to reduce the car’s weight and revise several key technical areas.
The British engineer has hinted that he is optimistic about the improvements. “We expect significant progress,” he reportedly said while discussing the updates that are set to arrive.
