The F1 Commission meeting which took place yesterday in London revealed a rift between the team-Liberty Media duo and the FIA in terms of Sprint 2023 races, while regarding the completion of the 2022 Formula 1 calendar after the Russian Grand Prix cancellation, in pole position for replacing the Sochi stage is Portimao, a circuit ready to host F1 in Portugal for the third consecutive year.
As regards to the regulation of the new power units expected in 2026 – the freezing of the current engines definitive from 1 September (for the electrical component, given that the thermal component is already blocked) is aimed at allowing Manufacturers to concentrate precisely on the new regulations – are the cornerstones on which an agreement has been been confirmed. The removal of the MGU-H component and the points listed above have long enticed the Volkswagen group to enter F1 starting from 2026 with the Audi and Porsche brands. The German giant would like to see what is currently a draft regulation defined in June so as not to have any last-minute surprises after having already made its official entry into F1. Michael Schmidt, journalist of the Auto Motor und Sport newspaper, explained that the issues still to be solved before the ratification of the legislation are the following.

Both Stefano Domenicali and Ross Brawn have shown confidence in the implementation of the regulation by June to fulfill Volkswagen’s request.
