In recent days, rumors of new components arriving at Ferrari have become increasingly frequent. For the Japanese Grand Prix, the Italian team is bringing some interesting elements to the lower part of the car. New components in the Venturi channel entry area, a new floor design, and a new diffuser for improved interaction between parts. Let’s take a closer look at what characterizes the update to Ferrari’s underbody introduced in Japan.

According to information from the FIA documents, the innovations introduced with this specification can be found in the bargeboards, the floor, and the diffuser. As a critical part for wing-car performance, several modifications have been made throughout the season to extract maximum potential. The new specification introduces modified bargeboards at the entry of the Venturi channels. With this latest update, the entry fences are even more extended forward and feature a different geometry. This design should enable better management of incoming airflow. Furthermore, the “cut” at the top of both bargeboards should create high-energy vortices for airflow capable of generating greater downforce.

This results in a vortex structure capable of carrying much more energy under the car. To align with these new entry updates, the geometries of the channels under the car have certainly been modified as well.
There are also minor adjustments to the rear part of the floor, which now features a small carbon lip just ahead of the rear wheels. Compared to the specification seen in Singapore, the new version has a slight up-wash and an end to generate vorticity. These vortices could be crucial in effectively managing the disturbance caused by the rear tires. The diffuser is also new, although there are no images available, and it has been optimized to seek better interaction with the floor to extract the maximum performance from under the car.
