With the announcement of the renewal of Spa-Francorchamps, the historic Belgian circuit, it’s only natural to wonder how long the other circuits will remain on the calendar. There are many voices discussing upcoming renewals or the lack of agreements. However, most circuit promoters have secured solid contracts to keep their races on the calendar. Let’s take a look at the F1 circuits with contracts, ordered by their expiration dates.
Contracts Expiring in 2024
The first circuit on the list is Suzuka, home to the Japanese Grand Prix. The Land of the Rising Sun’s circuit has a contract expiring at the end of 2024. Suzuka has been on the calendar since 1987, except for two occasions when the 2007 and 2008 Japanese GPs took place at Fuji. Nevertheless, its rich history, constant fan attendance, and continuous positive feedback from drivers suggest that Suzuka will remain on the calendar for a long time. Next up is Silverstone, another milestone in Formula 1 since 1950. The English circuit’s contract also expires in 2024, but it’s almost certain to continue its F1 adventure.
2025
The Belgian circuit has recently been renewed, ensuring that the cars will race in the Ardennes at least until 2025. However, the continuous addition of new races may not guarantee further renewals for historic circuits. The Monaco Grand Prix will also continue in F1 until 2025. Another contract expiring in 2025 belongs to the Imola circuit, which may receive exceptions due to the May flood that canceled the event. In Italy, the Monza circuit has secured another year of the contract. However, to maintain its spot on the calendar, the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is undergoing a significant renovation of its facilities.
Other circuits with contracts expiring in 2025 include the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico and the San Paolo circuit. Regarding the latter, there were talks of an entirely new circuit to be built in Rio de Janeiro, but it seems those plans have been abandoned. The Zandvoort and Shanghai circuits in China also have contracts until 2025, with the latter returning to the Circus after a six-year absence since the last edition in 2019. Lastly, we have the Las Vegas circuit returning to the calendar with a city circuit, and the race will take place on the local Saturday evening.
Circuits with Contracts Expiring in 2026 and Beyond
Among the circuits with contracts expiring in 2026 is the Baku circuit, combining high-speed sections with extremely technical ones. The Americas GP held at Austin’s COTA is another circuit with a long-term contract, becoming famous through the “Drive to Survive” series. Next is the Barcelona circuit, which renewed its agreement with Formula 1 at the end of 2021. After the Catalan track, we find the Marina Bay circuit in Singapore, which will remain until 2028, followed by the Red Bull Ring, with a contract until 2030. In the same year, several circuits, including Abu Dhabi and Jeddah, will see their contracts expire.
Canada and Miami’s circuits have even longer durations, hosting F1 until at least 2031. There’s an additional year of guaranteed presence for the Hungaroring, which will remain until 2032. The Losail circuit in Qatar has a similar contract length. However, the longest contracts belong to Bahrain (until 2036) and Melbourne, which will host F1 until 2037.
