The new Formula 1 season will officially kick off on 18 March 2022, when drivers will return to the track to compete in the first free practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first round on the 2022 F1 calendar. It will therefore be the first real moment of a Formula 1 championship that will present not only many innovations in terms of technical regulations, but also a number of events that has never been seen until now, with 23 weekends scheduled this year. Among these, moreover, some circuits will return after a few years of absence, together with the debut of a new track. Specifically, here are the GPs that will be added to those already seen in the last world championship:
GRAND PRIX OF AUSTRALIA
Once the first round of each Formula 1 season, the Australian Grand Prix will return in 2022 for the first time after the complex 2020-2021 two-year period, characterized by the Covid-19 emergency. Precisely for this reason, the organizers and the Australian government have not given the ‘green light’ to welcome the sport on the renewed Melbourne circuit, which will re-embrace teams and drivers from 8 to 10 April. In the last edition, held in 2019, Mercedes took a one-two finish, with Valtteri Bottas winning ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the new world champion Max Verstappen.
GRAND PRIX OF MIAMI
The real novelty for season will take place from 6 to 8 May, the period in which the first edition of the Miami GP will be staged. The weekend will take place on the new street circuit in the capital of Florida – located near Hard Rock Stadium – and will be the second on the calendar in the United States in addition to the one scheduled in Austin on 23 October.

GRAND PRIX OF CANADA
Still on the subject of North America, Canada will also allow single-seaters to restart their engines for the first time since 2019. The venue, once again, will be the historic Montreal circuit, named in memory of Gilles Villeneuve. Here, two and a half years ago, Lewis Hamilton’s victory was recorded, closely followed by the two Ferrari cars of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc. The paddock will return in Quebec between 17 and 19 June.
GRAND PRIX OF SINGAPORE
Australia, Canada and Singapore: after absences in 2020 and 2021, next year’s calendar will once again welcome a night event like that of Marina Bay, in Singapore. A historic stage in a certain sense for Ferrari, which achieved its last victory in Formula One right here, as well as for Sebastian Vettel. In fact, it was the German who brought the colors of Maranello to the top step of the podium, in a celebration magnified by the one-two finish thanks to the 2nd place of Charles Leclerc, ahead of Max Verstappen.
JAPAN GRAND PRIX
The latest new-entry, scheduled for the second week of October and immediately after the stage in Singapore, will be another historic venue like that of Suzuka, also absent from 2019. The Japanese circuit will finally be able to see a driver at work at home thanks to Yuki Tsunoda, even without the official presence of Honda. A little over two years ago, the race was instrumental in Mercedes ‘victory in the constructors’ title, which was achieved as a result of Vallteri Bottas’ success.
The 2022 Formula One world championship, however, will not include some GPs that were regularly held last season: among these, Portugal, Turkey and Qatar will not host an event this year, with the Losail International Circuithaving made its debut in Formula 1 precisely in 2021.
