Scuderia Ferrari’s title bid has started in a very disappointing way, after it was easily beaten by Red Bull and its lead car suffered the all too familiar fate of retiring because of a power unit issue. New team principal Fred Vasseur said after the season opener in Bahrain that he needed to stick to what he had said in the build-up: that the Italian side could not win or lose the championship at the first round of the season.
However, Ferrari clearly has a big task ahead to catch and defeat Red Bull this season, and its troubled start to the new F1 campaign didn’t even include a carryover of some of the positives it could take when things went wrong in 2022. Add in the immediate return of a big 2022 weakness, which was meant to be resolved, and things look even worse.
