Ex-Ferrari general manager’s proposal: Massa gets 2008 F1 title, Hamilton gets 2021 F1 title. Peter Windsor on the controversies surrounding the 2008 and 2021 F1 titles.

Former Ferrari general manager Peter Windsor believes that Felipe Massa’s legal action to reclaim the 2008 Formula 1 world championship could reignite the controversy surrounding the final round of the 2021 Formula 1 season, which was held in Abu Dhabi.

Last week, Felipe Massa filed a lawsuit against the FIA, FOM and Bernie Ecclestone over the infamous Crashgate scandal of 2008, in which he lost the championship. Thus, the former Ferrari driver has gone beyond mere words, delving into this sporting matter.

At the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, the Brazilian started from pole position but crossed the finish line only thirteenth after a series of events that compromised his race and eventually the title considering the final standings. The accident deliberately caused by Nelson Piquet Jr. – an action known to Bernie Ecclestone – to favor his then-teammate Fernando Alonso, and the chaotic pit stop under Safety Car conditions, were crucial in determining the world champion at the Interlagos circuit. The title eventually went to Lewis Hamilton, by a single point advantage over Felipe Massa.

Former Ferrari general manager Peter Windsor feels that the action taken by the former Brazilian driver could prompt Lewis Hamilton to do the same, contesting the outcome of the Abu Dhabi 2021 race. That last Grand Prix awarded the drivers’ championship to Max Verstappen, depriving Lewis Hamilton of his eighth title, in rather controversial circumstances.

Through a video posted on his YouTube channel, Peter Windsor stated: “Based on what Felipe did with Singapore in 2008, theoretically there’s a lot more to talk about regarding what happened at Abu Dhabi ’21.”

“In my opinion, the final lap shouldn’t have counted. Lewis should have won that race and become world champion. It’s an interesting point,” he continued.

“You could never ask him in a press conference because he would never give an honest answer. But deep down, if you were to ask Lewis Hamilton to lose his 2008 title to give it to Felipe Massa, and reclaim the 2021 championship, I think he would be willing to do it.” – the former Ferrari general manager concluded.

See, this is the problem. If Massa gets the 2008 title and Hamilton gets the 2021 title, then the entire history of F1 can be re-examined and changed (for example, the 1981 title). Not only will this be a terrible look for F1 to have championships decided in the court 16 years later, but both McLaren and Red Bull will protest for the titles that will be stripped off them. This will only create unnecessary friction between the teams.

The maximum Massa can get is the WDC prize money. Nothing more can come out of this trial without further consequences on the sport itself.

Massa como sempre chorão e não sabe perder , agora entra na justiça pra reaver o que perdeu na pista , Vergonhoso.

If Felipe Massa feels he has been robbed of a f1 title , he has every right to pursue justice. So props to Massa , I hope he wins. This is a question of a level playing field and if someone has cheated , (just like in track and field where a runner can be stripped of his or her medal) the same principle should apply also to F1 pure and simple.

If anythimg should be changed about 2021, it would have to be that the whole race was cancelled, instead of only the last lap.
