Enrico Cardile has broken the silence and is now free to begin his new chapter with Aston Martin after months of tension and legal battles with Scuderia Ferrari. Aston Martin can finally benefit from the extensive experience and technical expertise of Enrico Cardile following a long and complicated separation process from Ferrari.
Behind what may appear as a straightforward handover lies a story filled with tension, legal paperwork, and long waits that kept the Formula 1 paddock anxiously watching.
A new beginning for the former Ferrari engineer
Enrico Cardile’s arrival at Aston Martin was announced with much enthusiasm in July 2024, but reality proved more complicated than expected. Ferrari, determined to enforce every contractual clause, imposed a full year of gardening leave on the engineer. Moreover, suspecting that Cardile had already started collaborating with Aston Martin before the agreed date, Ferrari launched legal proceedings at the court in Modena.
The verdict came in April, with the judge siding with Ferrari and effectively freezing Cardile’s ability to begin work with Aston Martin until the official end of his gardening leave period. It was only in early August that confirmation arrived that the engineer was finally free to assume his role as Chief Technical Officer at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Silverstone.
Aston Martin welcomed Enrico Cardile’s operational start with satisfaction. He will now lead the entire technical department in preparation for the critical 2026 season, which will bring a major regulatory overhaul to Formula 1. Alongside him is another major acquisition: Adrian Newey, who joined in spring as managing technical partner. The synergy expected between these two technical heavyweights promises to be extraordinary.
With Dan Fallows now out of the picture, the Enrico Cardile-Adrian Newey duo forms the new beating heart of Aston Martin’s technical project. While the shadow of Ferrari’s influence still looms large, the British team’s future finally seems poised to take off.
