The 2024 Formula One season has just begun with the start of the only pre-season testing session at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. A season that, after a truly challenging 2023 Formula 1 championship, will be crucial for Scuderia Ferrari and its growth. In reality, the Scuderia will be called upon to change course and show signs of recovery, aiming to return to the top after a lackluster season, challenging Red Bull for pole positions and victories, and giving the Austrian side a run for its money, after Max Verstappen proved to be the absolute dominator in 2023.
Furthermore, this season will showcase to the world the first car entirely under the direction of Frédéric Vasseur, as 12 months ago, the French team principal inherited the car produced by the previous management. A season that, at least from the first kilometers, seems to have started better than 2023 for the Maranello team, which with the new SF-24 single-seater has decided to abandon the philosophy of cars with side “pods,” aligning more with concepts similar to Red Bull while maintaining its own identity.
A car designed under the technical direction of Enrico Cardile, at least regarding the chassis. And, during an interview on F1 TV, the Ferrari Technical Director commented on the new single-seater, first focusing on the behavior of the SF-24 and the sensations and information it has provided to the drivers and technicians in the initial kilometers. Information and sensations that, for now, seem to confirm the data from winter simulations.
“The car is responding as expected. So far, in terms of driver feedback, it is well in line with our expectations. We haven’t had any unpleasant surprises; it’s a good starting point.” – the Italian aerodynamicist explained on the second day of Formula 1 pre-season testing. The Ferrari engineer then spoke about the damage suffered by Charles Leclerc‘s car this morning after running over a raised curb: “The damage was in a small part of the floor; there is no reason to worry. We replaced it and continued with our plan.” – he concluded.
