Distracted or irresponsible holiday drivers? Slovenia introduces modern signage that’s sparking discussions.
With the major summer holiday exodus, all European countries are grappling with the increase in accidents caused by driver inattentiveness.
In recent hours, a sign has appeared on Slovenian highways that has sparked discussions and smiles, reminding motorists that they are on a public road.
The Formula 1-themed sign isn’t the only new signage in Slovenia. Passing along the A1, you can also read “Leave Racing To Roglic,” encouraging drivers to give way to the well-known Slovenian cyclist and recent winner of the Giro d’Italia.
One of the most dangerous highways, as reported, is the A5 motorway that connects Maribor with Budapest. In the 80 kilometers of highway, there are no speed cameras and they are often the scene of real races between drivers with high-performance cars.
Panel Messages in Italy
In Italy as well, since April, road safety awareness campaigns and initiatives have been launched. Throughout the summer, 10 new messages will be spread, selected from over 800 received by ASPI, aimed at promoting responsible driving.
To combat the dangerous habit of using a mobile phone while driving, highways will feature messages like “A few seconds on the phone are a hundred meters in the dark” and “Life is more important than a message.” In case of roadworks, there’s a sign that reads “The worker dressed in yellow is my dad. Slow down!”
