Eddie Jordan reveals key move Leclerc must make to defeat Hamilton at Ferrari in 2025 F1 season. Eddie Jordan urges Charles Leclerc to do one thing at Ferrari this season if he wants to beat Lewis Hamilton.

The 2025 Formula 1 season promises to deliver one of the most compelling storylines as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc go head-to-head in their quest to become Ferrari’s number one driver. With both drivers bringing exceptional talent to the team, this rivalry is set to be a defining narrative of the season.

Given Leclerc’s long-standing connection with Ferrari and the immense pedigree Lewis Hamilton holds as a seven-time world champion, it is unlikely that Ferrari will establish a clear-cut number-one driver. The Monegasque is highly regarded within the Maranello team, and the British driver’s status as one of the sport’s all-time greats only adds to the intrigue of their dynamic.

A key question on everyone’s mind is how Hamilton will fare against Charles Leclerc, especially considering the latter’s deep ties to Ferrari. Charles Leclerc has been part of the Ferrari family for much of his career and even shares a close relationship with the son of former team principal Jean Todt, which further deepens his connection to the Maranello outfit.

Peter Windsor, a respected figure in motorsport, has weighed in on the battle, suggesting that Charles Leclerc’s emotional control will be critical to his success. The former Ferrari team manager notes that the Monegasque driver has a tendency to overdrive the car in his pursuit of strong results, leading to unforced errors. How the Monegasque driver manages this aspect of his racing will be pivotal in his ability to overcome Hamilton, who has mastered consistency throughout his illustrious career.

In addition to Windsor’s insights, former F1 team principal Eddie Jordan has also shared his thoughts on how Leclerc can gain an advantage over Hamilton, particularly in the early part of the season. Speaking on the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan highlighted that while Charles Leclerc has consistently delivered strong one-lap performances, Lewis Hamilton’s race pace is often superior. Eddie Jordan believes that for the Monegasque to get the better of Hamilton, he will need to demonstrate speed and consistency early on in the season, setting the tone for what could be a fierce battle between the two drivers.

Eddie Jordan pointed out that Charles Leclerc, having been at Ferrari for seven years, knows everyone at the team and is well-versed in the culture and language of Maranello. He is, according to Jordan, seen as the “darling” of the team.

However, Jordan believed Charles Leclerc would be surprised by the challenge posed by Hamilton. He suggested that while Leclerc had a certain advantage over Carlos Sainz, Hamilton would quickly find his rhythm, though it might take him two or three races to fully settle in.

The television personality and former motorsport team owner advised Charles Leclerc to assert himself early in the season, as this would be the time to demonstrate dominance. As the year progressed, he expected that Leclerc would win more and more support from Ferrari’s staff, the Tifosi, and the Italian public, all of whom treat Ferrari as a national team. Jordan also felt that Hamilton, who is used to being embraced by fans, would be eager to reciprocate and fully embrace the affection that Ferrari fans would show him.

One aspect that could cause concern for Lewis Hamilton after recent comments made by Pirelli executives is the growing attention around Charles Leclerc. As Hamilton embarks on his journey with Ferrari, he will carry the added weight of being a world champion who is expected to help restore the team to its former glory—something that has eluded them since their last championship win in 2007.

Although some believe Hamilton may face less pressure than his predecessors Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, who both had their own struggles at Ferrari, the reality is that Hamilton’s age—now 40—will raise ongoing questions about his motivation, especially if the car’s performance doesn’t live up to expectations. Despite his stellar career, Hamilton is bound to face scrutiny about his ability to maintain the drive and consistency needed for success as he enters the latter stages of his career.

Recently, Pirelli executives expressed admiration for Leclerc, particularly praising his remarkable 11-car overtake at the start of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This move not only showcased Leclerc’s exceptional driving but also played a pivotal role in keeping Ferrari in contention for the Constructors’ Championship after he was handed a grid penalty for exceeding the power unit component limits.

Given the praise the Monegasque driver has received from Pirelli, Hamilton will no doubt be taking notice. His relationship with Pirelli tyres has been a source of frustration since the introduction of the 18-inch rims in 2022, a challenge that has affected his performance on track. With Charles Leclerc being commended for his recent achievements, Lewis Hamilton will likely be keen to prove himself against the younger driver, knowing that he has big shoes to fill in a team that has been waiting for a championship for nearly two decades.
