Bad news for Dutch festivals. The Dutch government has definitively put an end to multi-day festivals such as Lowlands, Down the Rabbit Hole and Mysteryland, according to ad.nl. It is unclear whether this will also have consequences for the Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
The Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled for the first weekend of September. Formula 1 would come back to the Netherlands for the first time since 1985, but after the event was moved last year due to the corona pandemic, the possibility for the upcoming edition to actually take place is also very unclear.
Update: ban on multi-day events until September 1
A little more clarity came during a recent press conference. There will be a ban on multi-day events with an overnight stay until September 1. According to outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte, that decision was taken in consultation with the events sector in order to provide clarity to the sector and to give events the opportunity to invoke the guarantee scheme. According to Rutte, it is not responsible to allow these events to continue now.
With the ever-changing situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, it remains uncertain weather the Formula 1 race at Zandvoort can continue to take place. On August 13, the Dutch government will provide more clarity about (multi-day) events that will take place after September 1.
