Frustration at Ferrari after qualifying in Singapore: Frederic Vasseur comments on Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz’s session and hints at an “aggressive” strategy for the race. From favorites on Friday to disaster on Saturday, the Singapore qualifying session was a nightmare for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Team Principal Fred Vasseur commented on his drivers’ performance to Sky Italia.
On Carlos Sainz’s condition
The French team leader began by updating on Carlos Sainz’s physical condition after the incident. “Physically, Carlos is fine, but he’s disappointed; it’s not the result he expected. He’ll be ready for tomorrow to try for a good comeback.” – the French manager explained.
On Charles Leclerc and tire temperatures
Charles Leclerc strongly complained during Q3 about insufficient tire temperatures. “We need to discuss this with Charles; I believe he started the lap with the right temperature. We didn’t want to be the first out on track and waited a bit in the pits. I think we lost some temperature there.” – the Ferrari team boss added – “Then he pushed a little more and got back to the right temperatures before starting the lap. But in that one lap, I believe he crossed the line by a couple of centimeters,” the head of the Maranello team continued at the end of the qualifying session for the 2024 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
Frederic Vasseur studies strategy for recovery in Singapore
“It’s not the easiest track for overtaking,” Frederic Vasseur explained. “I’d prefer to start ninth and tenth at another circuit, but we have strong pace. If we can replicate in the race what we showed in Free Practices 1 and 2, then we can aim for a good result. We need to try to put everything together and perhaps be a bit more aggressive with the strategy. After that, we’ll see what we can do.”
There is disappointment in the Maranello garage: “We’re a bit frustrated; we had the pace to be on the front row. That’s why we’re all a bit disappointed. Starting on softs in the race? Tonight we’ll analyze the choices to make for the race.” – Frederic Vasseur concluded.
