Scuderia Ferrari didn’t shine in Austria, at least in Friday afternoon’s session: the performance in sprint qualifying clearly disappoints Frederic Vasseur, who tries to identify the car’s problems and analyzes Charles Leclerc’s challenging session.
“The anti-stall activated in the pit lane, we were in the queue and had to pull over,” explained a disappointed Fred Vasseur at the end of the Austrian Grand Prix F1 qualifying shootout. The Ferrari team principal, often positive and smiling, appeared more somber than usual in his comments to Sky Italia during Spielberg’s complicated Friday.
Even the performance didn’t bring a smile to the Frenchman, as the SF-24 single-seater clearly did not have the pace to challenge Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes at the 4.318-kilometre Red Bull Ring in Spielberg: “The performance itself was poor. Frederic Vasseur also analyzes one of the problems affecting the SF-24 on the short Austrian circuit: “Undoubtedly, the bouncing doesn’t help. It was also present in Barcelona, partly due to tire overheating. We need to fix it, although I’m not sure if we’re the ones bouncing the most. But it needs fixing because it costs us a lot of time, even though quantifying it is impossible.”
Is there something special to try in the Sprint? “There’s nothing new to invent; there won’t be any stops in the Sprint. I don’t think we’ll even have much choice in tire compounds.
