Dino Beganovic is using his position inside Ferrari to learn directly from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc as he continues his push towards Formula 1. The Swedish Ferrari Driver Academy member is concentrating on his Formula 2 season with DAMS while maintaining an active role with the Scuderia through testing, simulator work and free practice appearances.
For Dino Beganovic, those Formula 1 opportunities are about much more than simply gaining mileage in a Grand Prix car. Working alongside two of the most accomplished and highly regarded drivers in modern motorsport gives the young Ferrari prospect the chance to study their technical approach, mentality and interaction with the team at close quarters.
Dino Beganovic learns directly from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc
The presence of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc inside the same team represents an enormous learning opportunity for a driver attempting to reach Formula 1. Dino Beganovic has already spoken about his ambition to turn his Ferrari experience into a future place on the F1 grid, and the chance to study both race drivers is an important part of that development.
“It’s not a driver line-up to mess around with,” Dino Beganovic explained. “It’s obviously Hamilton and Leclerc, who are very highly regarded in F1 and motorsport in general. It’s fantastic to be able to compare yourself with them, be alongside them and learn, as well as compare the data.”
That access goes well beyond looking at lap times. Comparing telemetry directly and observing how Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc communicate with engineers and mechanics gives Dino Beganovic practical examples of the discipline, technical approach and team-management skills required at the highest level of motorsport.
Lewis Hamilton opened Dino Beganovic’s eyes during Barcelona opportunity
Dino Beganovic gained another valuable insight during a free practice session in Barcelona, when he drove Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari for the first time after previously having experience in Charles Leclerc’s car. The outing formed part of Ferrari’s rookie programme, with the Swedish driver taking over Lewis Hamilton’s SF-26 in Barcelona FP1.
“Lewis was very kind and opened my eyes in many ways,” Dino Beganovic explained. “He pushes the team a lot and is extremely motivated. It is very inspiring to see how, despite everything he has already achieved in his life and career, he still wants to win as much as – if not more than – before.”
The intensity and continuing hunger for success shown by the seven-time world champion have made a particular impression. Despite everything Lewis Hamilton has already achieved, Dino Beganovic sees a driver who continues to demand more from himself and the team rather than allowing past success to reduce his motivation.
The Barcelona weekend also gave Ferrari an opportunity to combine rookie running with technical work. During FP1, Dino Beganovic participated in Ferrari’s SF-26 comparison programme while Charles Leclerc evaluated the updated specification.
At the same time, Dino Beganovic has been able to identify subtle but meaningful differences between the working styles of Ferrari’s two regular drivers. Rather than trying to copy one approach completely, those differences provide additional lessons that can be adapted to his own development.
Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari title pursuit provides another example
Charles Leclerc offers a different but equally valuable reference point. Dino Beganovic is particularly motivated by the Monegasque driver’s continued determination to pursue the Formula 1 World Championship with Ferrari.
“It is also really nice to watch Charles pushing to win the World Championship with Ferrari,” Dino Beganovic explained. “Those are exactly the elements that I take with me.”
That determination remains central to Charles Leclerc’s own approach as Ferrari continues its 2026 campaign, with the Monegasque driver maintaining an aggressive mentality while the Scuderia works to improve the SF-26. His race-by-race approach to Ferrari’s 2026 challenge provides another example for a younger driver observing how an established Formula 1 competitor handles a championship campaign.
Dino Beganovic takes Ferrari lessons back to Formula 2
The objective is to transfer those lessons into Dino Beganovic’s own career rather than simply observe them from the sidelines. In Formula 2, he is attempting to assume greater responsibility within DAMS and apply the working practices he sees at Ferrari.
“I try to lead DAMS in F2 and I behave like a sponge,” Dino Beganovic explained. “I have also received some advice about the new car, because there are many new aspects to consider, especially from a driving point of view. I am learning an enormous amount.”
Working closely with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc therefore provides Dino Beganovic with more than motivation. Ferrari’s simulator programme and his wider duties with the Formula 1 team are helping him develop fundamental skills, including how to structure a race weekend, provide higher-quality feedback to engineers and adapt quickly to different cars and regulations.
Those lessons can then be carried back into Formula 2, where Dino Beganovic is trying to become a more complete driver while continuing to pursue his ultimate objective. Every test, simulator session and Friday practice appearance gives the Ferrari academy prospect another opportunity to understand what is required at Formula 1 level, while Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc provide two elite reference points from which to learn.
