On Wednesday 27 January Carlos Sainz made his debut driving a Ferrari, taking the 2018 SF71H to the track at Fiorano and the eyes of the Spanish motorsport were all on the Madrid driver. Among those who followed closely his first experience in red owas also Pedro De la Rosa, test driver in Maranello between 2013 and 2014.
The former Iberian driver, currently commentator for Movistar TV, recalled his experience at the wheel of the Prancing Horse: “Ferrari is more than a Formula 1 team. It goes further. I only stayed there for two years as a test driver, but for me it was a unique experience. Everyone dreams of being able to drive a Ferrari sooner or later. It marks you forever. Carlos must be proud of it” – he explained.
At the same time, Pedro de la Rosa also has a warning for Carlos Sainz: “The pressure in Maranello is tremendous. But he has five seasons of Formula 1 experience and his last one at McLaren was spectacular. He does not have to think about the world context or the recent past of the Scuderia, but only about driving. Going to Ferrari is a unique opportunity and he is ready”.
The former driver of Arrows, Jaguar, McLaren, Sauber and HRT is looking forward to seeing Alonso in Formula 1 too : “There is a huge expectation, I am the first to look forward to it. After many years we have two very strong drivers again in two very good teams. Spain does not have a Ferrari, our Ferraris are the great drivers”, he explained to Corriere dello Sport .
