Home » David Coulthard backs Ferrari title bid in 2023 and explains team’s 2022 setbacks

David Coulthard backs Ferrari title bid in 2023 and explains team’s 2022 setbacks. David Coulthard backs Ferrari title bid in 2023.

After finishing second in both the drivers’ championship with Charles Leclerc and in the constructors’ championship, Scuderia Ferrari clearly improved on the meager results of the previous two Formula 1 seasons, but the start of the 2022 championship had deluded the fans about the possibility of bringing the world titles back to Maranello, a performance that has been missing since 2007 and 2008.

Team principal Mattia Binotto paid the price for this unfortunate outcome, as the Italian manager said goodbye to the Maranello team after more than twenty years in the company. His place will be taken by Frederic Vasseur, the French manager who until until last year held the same role in Alfa Romeo Sauber.

It will be interesting to understand what Ferrari can achieve on track in the 2023 Formula One championship, with its 675 project on which the the Maranello has spent resources and energy since last year, setting aside developments for the last part of the 2023 season, aware that it would not be able to challenge Red Bull for the titles.

David Coulthard, former Scottish driver of Williams, McLaren and Red Bull, is convinced that Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be able to have their say in the fight for the 2023 title:

“Ferrari is the most famous name in Formula 1 and is the longest-living team. And I believe in them, not so much in their myth, but in the lap times. They had the fastest car in qualifying in 2022, the car was outstanding and Charles Leclerc was able to capitalise on this performance for most of the season. I believe in the drivers and in the fact that, having designed a car of that type, they have the right talent in the team to solve the problems they have had. With these premises they must be in contention for the 2023 title“. – the former Formula One driver added.

David Coulthard, in an interview with Mirror Sport, reaffirmed his faith in the Ferrari team: “I believe in Ferrari, not because they have a prancing horse on the red car, but on what they have in their hands: a very fast F1 car and two very strong and motivated. So in 2023 they have to aim for the world championship and I think they can succeed in their goal, if they solve the problems that are clearly evident to everyone”. – David Coulthard concluded.
