Cyril Abiteboul impressed by Charles Leclerc: “Takes the car to a superior level”. Cyril Abiteboul impressed by Charles Leclerc.

The results achieved by Charles Leclerc driving an SF1000 with numerous critical issues have increased the enthusiasm of the Ferrari people towards the young Monegasque. But not only. Cyril Abiteboul, Renault team principal, has recently been added to the many admirers of the Prancing Horse driver. The number one of the team from beyond the Alps was in fact the protagonist of a press conference on the eve of the world championship appointment in Imola, in which he expressed his consideration for number 16.

Asked which driver outside Renault had impressed him most during the season, Abiteboul replied: “Charles, 100%. He is able to take the car to a level that it should not have given the potential of the car.” The race in Imola gave further value to the words of the team principal, with Charles protagonist alogside Daniel Ricciardo in a prolonged confrontation, valid for the last step of the podium, before Daniil Kyvat entered between the two thanks to a magnificent overtaking at the outside the Piratella against the Monegasque.

Charles has had a consistent championship so far, bringing important points to Ferrari from a constructors perspective and scoring two podiums, at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone. Although the young talent of the Cavallino was not free from errors, such as the impact at the Parabolica in Monza or the accident with his teammate in Styria, the balance of the performance four races from the conclusion remains positive.

The Monegasque also scored 85 points overall against Sebastian Vettel’s 18. Abiteboul, however, claims that it is not the results of the four-time world champion that are below expectations, but that it is Charles who shows off extraordinary performances. The Frenchman in fact declared: “Everyone is questioning Sebastian Vettel, but I think the real question mark is Charles.”
