Scuderia Ferrari is already thinking about the 2023 Formula 1 season, given the fact that Charles Leclerc is now 109 points behind the the champions leader Max Verstappen after the Dutch Grand Prix, while the Maranello team is 135 behind Red Bull in the Constructors’ championship and will have to be focused more on finishing ahead of Mercedes in the battle for second place.
The 2022 Formula 1 World Championship started with great prospects for the Italian side, hanks to an impressive F1-75 car, which seemed to be able to compete at every race against Red Bull. However, the new car had many reliability problems, and some poor strategy decisions and operational errors led to Ferrari not being able to capitalize on the speed of the F1-75 car in the first part of the championship, while Red Bull was able to improve and has now clearly become the fastest car on the grid.
After yet another bad performance in Belgium seven days ago, with the Austrian team dominating at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, many sports newspapers were already talked about Ferrari shifting focus to the 2023 project. And it seems that the Ferrari challengers which is currently developed for the next world championship is in an advanced phase. The team principal of the Scuderia, Mattia Binotto, had already confirmed this ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix: “It is now September, so our car for 2023 is already ready regarding the concepts for the chassis, the suspension and the gearbox. We need to push further on aerodynamics, given that the regulation is the same for next year. Working on the weak points of this year’s car is useful for both cars.” – the Ferrari boss explained.
At the end of the Dutch Grand Prix, which once again confirmed Red Bull’s superiority over Ferrari, especially in terms of race pace, Mattia Binotto was once again asked about next year’s project and most importantly whether the current poor state of Ferrari’s performance compared to Red Bull could be something that will also influence the 2023 project:

“There is no concern about it. The car is being developed alongside the work carried out for the F1-75, if anything the difficulties we are experiencing will help us in some way to correct the new car. The 2023 challenger will not be the 2022 one, it is developing well, just like it happened last year with the F1-75. It is not something we are worried about. The gap that emerged from the Belgian Grand Prix also prompted us to do some analysis and to review our objectives regarding the deficit and the aspects on which we need to improve in order to improve the overall performance.” – Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto concluded.
