Could Max Verstappen join Ferrari? New behind-the-scenes details emerge. Rumors about Max Verstappen possibly joining Ferrari are gaining momentum.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), 2025 F1

The possibility of a union between Max Verstappen and Ferrari is becoming more concrete, with new behind-the-scenes details fueling the speculation. The Formula 1 paddock continues to discuss what would be a sensational move for the Dutch champion, and hints are starting to emerge that something might really be happening in this direction.

The four-time world champion Max Verstappen could genuinely end up at Ferrari. The Dutch driver has never hidden his admiration for the Scuderia, although he has always made it clear that there would need to be one essential condition before he even considers making the switch. Now, however, additional rumors are surfacing about the potential partnership between Verstappen and the Maranello team.

“This year we have spoken about it more than in previous seasons. We are talking about Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. That is logical. Max and I are discussing all the possible options, which are the three top teams—excluding McLaren—that could welcome him.” These were the words of Jos Verstappen, father of the Dutch world champion, during the Zandvoort weekend. The former driver therefore effectively confirmed that there have been contacts between the parties. Having a driver of Max Verstappen’s caliber in the team could only strengthen the Italian squad, especially if the move were to materialize in 2027 or 2028 as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton.

Then came the view of Max Verstappen himself, who clarified under what circumstances he might consider a transfer to Maranello: “I think the mistake is here. I would never go there just to drive for Ferrari, but because I would see the chance to win. I believe that you should not let yourself be influenced by the emotions and passion of a brand.” These words underline his pragmatic approach, showing that for him, Ferrari would only be an option if it represented a realistic path to further world championships. Now, however, other behind-the-scenes reports are surfacing, as revealed by Giancarlo Minardi in an interview with Motorsport.com Italy.

Minardi: “I believe Ferrari is making an effort”

“I believe that Ferrari has indeed moved in that direction. Then there are his own words, when he said he would only go where he can win, which are a negative signal. In these months there have been many talks, hidden negotiations, without anything being concluded. I say that everything is possible. I believe Ferrari is trying, after all we witnessed an unfortunate comment from Toto Wolff toward his drivers at the end of the race in Monza, while once again praising Verstappen. From what I know, he was ordered from above to stop negotiating with him. Every team would want the best driver and right now, regardless of the value of the car, that driver is Verstappen.”

According to our opinion, even though the arrival of a superstar like Max Verstappen would be exciting for Ferrari and its fans, the drivers are not the main issue at Maranello. The Scuderia is facing a series of significant departures among its engineers, with new arrivals that do not seem to carry the same weight. The real challenge lies in restructuring the organization and bringing Ferrari back to the top before the 2026 regulation changes. Team principal Frédéric Vasseur is fully aware of this responsibility and knows that it will be crucial to rebuild a strong technical foundation in order to make the team truly competitive again.
