During certain stages of the season, F1 teams also focus on marketing, promoting new T-shirts and caps with special designs. This is exactly what Ferrari did in China for the second round of the F1 season, although the new merch created by the Italian team has led to some misunderstandings.
Drivers have the opportunity to get creative throughout the year by personalizing their helmets, while teams occasionally change the look of their cars. Fans, on the other hand, rely on the new collections periodically released by the teams. Over the years, Ferrari has accustomed its supporters to special lines for each Italian GP. In 2024, black was the dominant color for Monza merch, while in 2023, they opted for a reference to the 499P competing in the WEC.
Looking back at last season, the Maranello team did not release a new collection only for the Monza GP. Consider the Miami-themed line, characterized by shades of blue, or the one they brought to Las Vegas, where Ferrari red shared space with desert-inspired elements.
Earlier this week, the Maranello team published images of the new polo shirts for China. Up until that point, Ferrari’s announcement had not attracted any particular comments. The story changed when photos of the caps and shorts began to circulate.
These items feature splashes, which the team designed to symbolize the champagne used by drivers to celebrate on the podium. While the cap does not seem to raise any concerns, the same cannot be said for the shorts. Ferrari introduced an unusual design that has sparked numerous double entendres and social media debate.
