Amid the general enthusiasm that surrounded Ferrari at the start of the season, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton both repeatedly stated that they had a driving style often described as “very similar.” Something that greatly impressed the Ferrari fans, convinced they could count on a driver pairing working in the same direction in terms of feedback and car development.
Having two drivers with the same setup preferences allows the team to avoid working in opposite directions, which in turn helps solve problems more efficiently. And after the issues that emerged during the pre-season testing session in Bahrain, the Tifosi were counting on feedback from Lewis Hamilton and Chares Leclerc to quickly return to the top.
However, the first races of the year have shown that the SF-25 is far from being a title-contending car, and the atmosphere between the two sides of the garage seems to have shifted slightly. During the Suzuka weekend, statements from the two Ferrari drivers appeared to point in different directions, raising some doubts.
Questions begin to arise about the drivers
The topic was brought up by Ivan Capelli during the show Race Anatomy. The former Formula 1 driver commented specifically on this aspect, without hiding a certain concern. “Charles Leclerc definitely seemed pessimistic even though he said he had found something he would try in the race. At the beginning of the year, both drivers said they were surprised to have such a similar driving style. And yet now, after just the third race, they’re going in different directions. That’s worrying because it means Ferrari still hasn’t found the right path.” – the former Ferrari driver explained at the end of the Japanese Grand Prix.
