Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz’s contract with the Maranello team expires in 2024, but the renewal is already secured. As we wrote in several articles, the Maranello team wants to confirm its driver lineup for at least another two years.
While Charles Leclerc seems likely to receive a mega contract that could bind him to the Scuderia for at least five years, Carlos Sainz’s situation is different. The Italian side seems inclined to offer him a two-year contract and, in the meantime, look around to assess the driver market.
However, the Spanish driver appears determined to continue wearing red for a long time. “I am in the best position on the F1 grid to be an F1 champion, without a doubt,” Carlos Sainz stated in a recent interview with DAZN Spain. “Until you are with Ferrari, you can’t live it. You are practically running for an entire country. I give my best at work, on the track, training to become a world champion, and I do it with Ferrari.”
The Ferrari #55 expressed his happiness to be part of this team, so much so that “at the moment, I don’t see an expiration date.” From his words, it is evident that the former McLaren driver intends to conclude his career with Scuderia Ferrari, thus asking for more than a two-year contract. His motivation? The same that unites all those who drive for Ferrari: to become a world champion. “It’s what we have to try in 2024, and I think we have the capabilities,” he continued.
Carlos Sainz also highlighted how, although Max Verstappen and Red Bull are making a difference, in some races, the Maranello team has proven to be faster than them.
Any wishes for 2024? Naturally, a fast car. “In 2024, I ask for a car to win. Whether we win or not, the judgment is up to God. But I ask for a car to win and that I can go to every race thinking I can achieve victory,” concluded the Spanish driver.
