Pre-season testing in Sakhir
After announcing the 2025 Formula 1 world championship calendar well in advance, the only remaining news was the official confirmation of the location for the winter tests. The official confirmation arrived today via a joint statement from the FIA and Formula 1, in which the championship organizers announced that the permanent circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain, will once again host pre-season testing in February.
The dates: three days of testing
In line with cost containment measures, especially relevant at the end of the current regulatory cycle – with new cars and power units set to debut in 2026, a complete overhaul even more significant than what we saw in 2022 – there will only be three days of collective testing, just as in the current and previous seasons. The sessions are scheduled for February 26, 27, and 28, 2025, likely featuring eight-hour sessions similar to recent years.
Seventh time for testing in Bahrain
This will be the seventh time Formula 1 cars have hit the track in Bahrain for pre-season testing. The first time was in 2009, followed by sessions in 2014 and then continuously from 2021 to 2024. However, next season will mark the first time in five years that the opening race of the calendar will not take place in Bahrain. Instead, the championship will return to its traditional opener in Melbourne on the weekend of March 16, with the Bahrain Grand Prix moved to April 13.
