Red Bull boss Christian Horner has revealed details about Lewis Hamilton’s contacts with Scuderia Ferrari and the Austrian side before signing the two-year deal with Mercedes.
“This is the only team with which I intend to close my career.” This is what Lewis Hamilton declared last August, pledging eternal love to Mercedes following the signing of a two-year deal that will earn him 50 million per season.
However, according to Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner, the words of the seven-time world champion are not so sincere: “We had several conversations with Lewis over the years,” Christian Horner revealed regarding a potential move by Lewis Hamilton to Red Bull. “They contacted us several times. The last one was at the beginning of this year, to understand if there was any interest from us.”
Lewis Hamilton and the discussion with Ferrari in Monaco:
Before the Anglo-Austrian team, Lewis Hamilton’s entourage reportedly had discussions with Scuderia Ferrari: “He also met John Elkann. I think there were serious talks with them. It happened in Monaco, and I believe Vasseur was also present. They had discussions, John Elkann was certainly present.” – the Red Bull boss pointed out.
Returning to the possibility of a dream team with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, Christian Horner believes that Red Bull is not interested.

“I don’t see how Max and Lewis can work together. In the team, we are 100% satisfied with what we have.”
The rest of the story is known. Lewis Hamilton conducted lengthy negotiations with Mercedes, concluding during the summer with the signing of a two-year deal. His stay with the Anglo-German team is thus secured until 2025.
2026 marks the year of the regulatory revolution, and Lewis Hamilton will celebrate his 42nd birthday. We will see if he decides to leave Formula 1 or if the idea of finishing his career in red will entice him once again.
