Christian Horner heads into the Mexican GP with one certainty: Ferrari now poses a serious threat to Red Bull in the constructors’ championship.

The Red Bull team boss is so concerned by Ferrari’s recent performances that he is convinced they will also be competitive in Mexico. The Maranello team has made a significant breakthrough in the championship after their one-two finish in the United States Grand Prix at the Austin circuit last weekend.

Currently, Ferrari is just 8 points behind Red Bull, something that seemed unimaginable not long ago. The race pace demonstrated by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz was clearly dominant, and Ferrari also shined from a strategic point of view.

For this reason, Christian Horner is certain that Ferrari will once again be a major threat to Red Bull at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, but not only that.

“I think Ferrari gained performance over the United States weekend. They looked very strong, particularly in their race setup. Obviously, they perhaps sacrificed a bit in qualifying to benefit in the race. That’s why I’m sure they will be competitive in Mexico City. They are now a threat,” revealed the team principal of the reigning world champions ahead of the next round of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign.

Christian Horner is dealing with several issues within his team. In fact, since the Spanish GP, Red Bull has not secured a victory. Max Verstappen is trying to keep the Milton Keynes team afloat, while Sergio Perez continues to struggle, which certainly doesn’t help the situation: “The upgrades brought to Austin seem to have shown some fairly positive signs. Max was much happier with the car as soon as we arrived here. So that’s encouraging for some of the upcoming races,” concluded the Red Bull team principal.
