The first half of the 2021 Formula One season has offered us some very intense and thrilling moments, from a nail-biting Bahrain Grand Prix, high-drama at Imola and Azerbaijan to heartbreak for Charles Leclerc at Monaco and a chaotic Hungarian Grand Prix which led to the second podium finish of the season for Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz.
Several Formula 1 experts have shared their thoughts on the first 11 races of the season, pinpointing their top three drivers of 2021 so far as well as evaluating the individual performances of drivers.
Freelance motorsport journalist Chris Medland believes that Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc should be included in the top three drivers in 2021 so far: “Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly. It’s a bit weird not to be picking one of the top two, but I feel like they’ve been incredibly consistent and all three are showing themselves to be top-level drivers even if they don’t have the machinery right now.” – he explained, as reported by Formula1.com.
On the other hand, F1.com Staff Writer Samarth Kanal feels that the performances of Carlos Sainz this season have earned him a place among the top three drivers: “Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and Carlos Sainz” – Samarth Kanal said when asked about his personal ranking.
Lawrence Barretto was asked about the biggest shock in the first half of the season and pointed to the comeback of the Maranello team, after the difficult 2020 Formula 1 championship: “That Ferrari have been so impressive. Poles in Monaco and Baku were surprising. They were in contention for the win on pure pace at Monaco and almost won Silverstone, too. And when they fell down a tyre rabbit hole in France, quite unexpectedly it didn’t take them very long to claw their way out. This is a Ferrari team showing signs of operating at the highest level.” – he added.
