Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc had to settle for a disappointing tenth place in the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, the third to last round of the F1 World Championship that was staged at the Sakhir circuit. The Monegasque had to deal with a Ferrari lacking in terms of speed and suffered several overtakes, thus closing on the edge of the top-10 and taking home a small point. We would have expected more from the Prancing Horse after the good results of the last few weeks, but in the desert there was a step backwards in terms of competitiveness.
The young man from Monaco is still in the running for fourth place in the drivers’ standings. Today, however, was animated by a bickering with Sebastian Vettel more than by the mere result on the track. On the occasion of the second restart, after the terrible accident of Romain Grosjean (red flag for 85 minutes after the Haas went up in flames and the Frenchman was saved by a miracle) and the overturning of Lance Stroll (safety car), Charles Leclerc entered turn 1 by overtaking his teammate. A maneuver that seemed correct since there was space, but the German driver complained loudly through the radio messages.
Charles Leclerc clarified amicably with the four-time Formula 1 World Champion at the end of the race, as team principal Mattia Binotto made it clear. The Ferrari driver then pointed out to the Sky Sport F1 microphones: “Honestly, I didn’t see if I was too aggressive. There was room in Turn 1, I went there and made a move. From my point of view I have not done anything special.” – Charles explained.
