Today the Italian national police force of the Viareggio Radiomobile Operations Unit arrested the four robbers who last spring – precisely on the evening of April 18, 2022, on Easter Monday – had stolen a Richard Mille 67-02 watch from Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, whose value is estimated at around 2 million euros. The theft had taken place in the city of Viareggio, where the Monegasque champion had gone to visit his friend and personal trainer Andrea Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc is not the only victim
Charles Leclerc had become the target of a real gang, made up of three men and a woman and operating in the area between Versilia and Lucca, specialized in the theft of high value watches. The investigation, which lasted several months, gave the police the opportunity to reconstruct the events and trace the group of robbers.

Operation studied in detail
The Scuderia Ferrari driver had in fact been the victim of an operation studied in detail: a couple of men, aboard an SUV, would in fact have provided support to the two accomplices – a man and a woman traveling on a scooter instead – taking care first of following the Monegasque driver from Forte dei Marmi to Viareggio, and then facilitating the escape, immediately after the heist, preventing any pursuit in the moments following the theft.

Decisive video surveillance images
Once the coup was carried out, the four immediately left to Naples, where they were arrested today. The thieves had approached Charles Leclerc with the excuse of a photo and then took the watch off his wrist and disappeared. To facilitate the reconstruction of what happened and to capture of the criminals a key element used was the footage from numerous video surveillance images – both public and private – as well as listening to various witnesses.
