Charles Leclerc’s response to a question about Austria raises doubts: between frustration and silence, something isn’t right at Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc, after finishing third at the Austrian GP, appeared surprised by a question during the FIA press conference, revealing more than he intended.
What seemed like a flat race for Charles Leclerc gained unexpected meaning after the checkered flag. The Monegasque looked almost taken aback when asked about the key moments of his race at the Red Bull Ring. His honest and somewhat resigned answer sparked questions.
“A boring race, with many situations to manage”
Charles Leclerc’s Austrian weekend ended with a podium that didn’t feel like a success. Starting alongside Lando Norris, he immediately lost ground, overtaken by Oscar Piastri at the first corner. From there, a solitary race with no significant action, marked by constant technical compromises.
When asked about a memorable moment, Charles Leclerc appeared visibly surprised and uneasy: “I didn’t expect that question,” he said in the press conference, caught off guard. “Apart from the start, there weren’t many moments to remember.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
However, Charles Leclerc hinted at a more complex subtext: “We had to manage… well, let’s call them ‘situations.’ Not problems, but situations to manage.”
The reference to lift and coast—a fuel-saving technique that affects on-track competitiveness—suggests something in the Ferrari package still doesn’t convince. Charles Leclerc tried to stay vague, but his difficulty was clear: “It was frustrating, especially in the first stint. The other two did a bit better.”
It’s hard not to read between the lines: behind the third place stands an SF-25 that still demands compromises and a driver beginning to feel the pressure of time.
