Charles Leclerc’s dog Leo provided one of the most unexpected images of the Hungarian Grand Prix paddock when he squatted beside a Red Bull-branded wall as Charles Leclerc and Alexandra Saint Mleux looked on. The Ferrari driver appeared to film the scene on his phone with a broad smile, while Saint Mleux covered her face as she held Leo’s lead.
The amusing moment arrived before a productive start to Ferrari’s weekend. Charles Leclerc subsequently topped Friday’s opening practice session at the Hungaroring, finishing ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren driver Lando Norris. That result gave the social-media joke an obvious second act, with some supporters declaring it “Pee 1 for Leo”.
Charles Leclerc’s dog Leo draws a playful Red Bull response
Videos and photographs from the paddock show Leo stopping at the base of a wall carrying prominent Red Bull branding. Although fans quickly described the episode as Leo “marking Ferrari territory” at a rival team’s home for the weekend, that was naturally only a playful interpretation of an ordinary canine interruption.
The reaction of the people around him helped the clip spread. Saint Mleux appeared caught between embarrassment and amusement, while Charles Leclerc grinned and pointed his phone towards Leo. Red Bull then joined the joke through its social-media account, responding: “No, Leo, that’s SO not right!”
The setting made the image particularly effective. Charles Leclerc was wearing Ferrari red, Leo had stopped directly beside Red Bull’s dark-blue branding, and members of the rival team could be seen nearby. It created a ready-made visual joke without requiring any manufactured rivalry or sporting controversy.
A light-hearted prelude to Ferrari’s strong Friday start
The timing also gave the moment greater visibility. Once Charles Leclerc recorded the fastest lap in FP1, the earlier paddock footage was recirculated alongside jokes that Leo had successfully claimed the area before Ferrari claimed first place on the timesheet.
There is, of course, no sporting significance to the episode. It revealed nothing about Ferrari’s performance, Red Bull’s prospects or the competitive order for the remainder of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Practice results must also be treated cautiously because teams can run different fuel loads, engine settings and test programmes.
What the moment did show was a relaxed Charles Leclerc shortly before the serious work began. His decision to film Leo, rather than immediately move away from the awkward scene, turned a routine paddock arrival into a clip that was quickly understood and shared by Formula 1 fans.
Leo once again attracts attention in the Formula 1 paddock
Leo has become a familiar presence alongside Charles Leclerc and Alexandra Saint Mleux at selected Formula 1 events. On this occasion, however, the location of his unscheduled stop ensured that the dog became part of the Ferrari-Red Bull conversation before either team had completed a lap.
For Ferrari supporters, the sequence provided an entertaining footnote to a Friday that began encouragingly on track. Charles Leclerc led Lewis Hamilton in a Ferrari one-two during FP1, while Leo had already secured the paddock’s most memorable unofficial “territory” claim of the day.
