Charles Leclerc overwhelmed by fans at brother’s wedding in Lecce
Ferrari Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc found himself at the centre of unexpected chaos during what was supposed to be a rare weekend of calm away from the intensity of the sport.
Fresh from securing fourth place at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in front of the passionate Ferrari tifosi, the Monegasque driver travelled with his girlfriend, Alexandra Saint Mleux, to celebrate the wedding of his older brother Lorenzo Tolotta-Leclerc and Charlotte Di Pietro. The ceremony, which followed the couple’s civil wedding in Monaco earlier in June, was held in Lecce at the historic Basilica of Santa Croce.
What should have been an intimate family celebration was instead disrupted after details of the event were reportedly leaked to the press. The information drew huge crowds of Ferrari fans to the heart of Salento, eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite driver.
Instead of enjoying the day quietly with his family, Charles Leclerc became the focus of attention. Supporters crowded around him, pushing for photographs and autographs, with many wearing Ferrari caps and colours. Footage shared on social media showed Leclerc and Alexandra Saint Mleux arriving in elegant attire, but the scenes quickly escalated as he was bombarded with autograph requests. At one point, the Ferrari star could even be seen trying to calm the noise of the overexcited crowd.
The videos rapidly went viral, and the behaviour of some tifosi sparked criticism online. Social media users accused those who attended of invading the driver’s privacy and disrespecting what should have been a personal family moment. Several fans expressed disbelief that people would consider it acceptable to appear uninvited at such an occasion, noting that a wedding is among the most important and private moments in someone’s life.
Others highlighted the pressure such behaviour placed on both the couple and Leclerc himself. Some pointed out that weddings are already overwhelming to organise, and that guests expect to share the day only with close friends and family. They criticised those who stood filming without permission and approaching Leclerc for signatures, remarking that the driver still responded politely because of his well-known generosity with fans.
The incident sparked widespread debate across social platforms, with many Ferrari supporters insisting that while passion for the Scuderia and for Charles Leclerc is understandable, it should never extend to disrupting deeply personal milestones. The general sentiment was that Leclerc deserved the chance to celebrate his brother’s wedding in peace, without the atmosphere of a Formula 1 paddock following him into his private life.
